Google brings agentic AI and vibe-coded widgets to Android

In a groundbreaking announcement during the 'Android Show: I/O Edition' event on Tuesday, Google revealed a suite of innovative AI capabilities branded under Gemini Intelligence. This new technology aims to revolutionize how users interact with their devices by enabling AI to seamlessly perform tasks across multiple applications. Among the standout features is the AI's ability to complete intricate tasks such as web browsing, form filling, and speech dictation, along with the exciting introduction of customizable Android widgets through natural language prompts. Earlier this year, at the Samsung Galaxy S26 launch, Google showcased initial agentic functions like ordering food and booking rides, paving the way for these more advanced capabilities. Gemini will now be equipped to manage multi-step processes. For instance, users can instruct the assistant to copy a grocery list from their notes app and automatically add items to their shopping cart. Activating this feature is as simple as pressing the power button and describing the task to the assistant, which will use the screen's content as context for its actions. Importantly, Gemini will always seek user confirmation before finalizing any transactions. Additionally, the much-anticipated auto-browse feature, first introduced in January, is now set to roll out to Android devices. By late June, users will also see Gemini integrated into Chrome, enhancing their browsing experience by summarizing content or providing answers to questions about the webpage. Another significant addition is Gemini's capability to fill out forms using Personal Intelligence, a feature that users can opt into and manage through their settings. Moreover, Google is enhancing Gboard with a new function called Rambler, which utilizes Gemini's multimodal capabilities to transcribe speech in a personalized tone and format it by eliminating unnecessary filler words. As vibe coding apps gain popularity, Google is also offering Android users a unique opportunity to design their own widgets through simple descriptive queries. For example, a user might create a meal planning widget by asking for high-protein meal prep recipes. Following the principles of Material 3 expressive design, these AI-driven features will initially be available on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices this summer, with broader availability expected across other Android devices later this year.
