Google has announced an exciting new feature that allows users to share their personalized Gemini AI assistants, known as Gems, with others. This update, revealed on Thursday, expands on the capabilities introduced last year as part of the Gemini Advanced subscription service. Initially, users could create custom AI chatbots tailored for various tasks, with options ranging from educational coaches to writing aids and coding helpers. Now, sharing these Gems is as simple as sharing a document via Google Drive. This enhancement aims to make these tools more accessible, ensuring that even those who may not engage with advanced customization can benefit from the technology. The sharing feature could prove particularly useful in collaborative environments. For example, coworkers can now easily exchange ideas using the same customized assistant, thereby reducing redundancy and ensuring consistency across projects. This functionality is also beneficial for personal projects, such as planning family vacations, organizing meals, or tackling group writing tasks. To share a Gem, users simply need to access the Gem manager within the web application and click the “Share” icon next to their created assistant. Similar to Google Drive, users have the ability to manage permissions, determining who can view, use, or edit their shared Gems. After initially rolling out to premium subscribers in March, Google has made the Gems available to all users, who can now also upload files to their assistants.
