Google announces deepfake call detection for Android, new AirDrop device support

Google's latest initiative expands upon a system introduced last month, which focused on verified financial calls, to now include all contacts saved on users' devices. Victims often find themselves on the receiving end of a call from a familiar voice, urgently requesting financial assistance under false pretenses. To access this protective feature, users need to have Android 12 or higher and must install three specific Google applications: Phone by Google, Contacts, and Google Messages. While many devices come preloaded with these apps—especially on Pixel and Motorola models—Samsung has also transitioned fully to Google Messages, ensuring a broader reach of this important tool. Despite Google's claim that its Phone app is the most widely used dialer, the presence of Samsung's own app raises questions about this assertion, given Samsung's status as the largest Android manufacturer.
