At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2026) in Las Vegas, Google showcased its vision for revolutionizing the television experience through artificial intelligence. Following the introduction of its Gemini AI to Google TV devices in November, the tech giant revealed an array of new features designed to enrich how viewers engage with content. Among the most exciting updates is the ability for users to interact with their TV using natural language. This means viewers can simply speak to their devices to find shows, catch up on plot recaps, or receive personalized recommendations. For example, asking Gemini for suggestions that cater to the combined tastes of two users or recalling a movie based on a description is now a seamless process. Gemini's capabilities extend beyond entertainment, as Google aims to utilize the TV screen for educational purposes as well. At CES, the company demonstrated how users could ask questions about various topics and receive comprehensive, narrated overviews directly on their screens. This feature allows for an interactive learning experience, where users can continue to ask follow-up questions to delve deeper into subjects of interest. Moreover, the AI will enable users to access their Google Photos libraries more intuitively, allowing for searches based on specific individuals or memorable moments. Artistic features will also let users apply creative styles to their photos and videos, transforming their memories into visually stunning slideshows. Perhaps one of the most convenient features is the ability to adjust TV settings through voice commands. Users can simply tell Gemini if the screen is too dim or if dialogue is hard to hear, and the AI will automatically make the necessary adjustments without disrupting the viewing experience. To utilize these new Gemini features, Google TV devices must operate on Android TV OS 14 or higher and require an internet connection. Initially, support will be limited to select languages, regions, and devices, and a Google account will be necessary to access the Gemini experience on TV.
