Google now lets you explore the web side-by-side with AI Mode

On Thursday, Google introduced an exciting enhancement to its browsing experience with the launch of AI Mode, a conversational search feature designed to transform how users interact with the web. This new functionality allows Chrome desktop users to view a webpage alongside AI Mode, facilitating a more integrated approach to searching and comparing information. With AI Mode, users can delve deeper into their queries. For instance, if you're in the market for a coffee maker, you can communicate your preferences directly to the AI. Upon selecting a retailer's website, the AI will remain accessible, enabling you to pose specific questions such as, "How easy is this to clean?" The AI will utilize contextual information from both the selected page and the broader internet to provide informed responses. Google noted that feedback from early users highlighted the convenience of not needing to toggle between tabs while engaging with lengthy articles or videos. The ability to have both the search interface and web content visible simultaneously helps maintain focus and enhances productivity during research activities. In addition, Google is rolling out a new feature that allows users to search across multiple open tabs. Whether on Chrome desktop or mobile, users can access recent tabs via the “plus” menu in the search box on the “New Tab” page or within AI Mode. This feature empowers users to incorporate various tabs, images, or documents into their searches. For example, if you're exploring local hiking trails and have relevant tabs open, you can add them to your search to find similar trails elsewhere. Similarly, students preparing for exams can integrate notes and lecture materials into their inquiries, enriching their learning experience. Currently, these updates to AI Mode are available in English within the U.S., with plans for broader international rollout in the near future.
