Google announces new AI-powered personal health and fitness coach for Fitbit

During its recent Made by Google event, the tech giant introduced an exciting new feature: an AI-driven personal health coach for Fitbit. Powered by Gemini, this innovative coach combines the roles of a fitness trainer, sleep consultant, and wellness advisor into a single, cohesive experience. Set to launch as a preview for Fitbit Premium users in October, this personal health coach will be integrated into the updated Fitbit app, compatible with the latest Fitbit trackers, smartwatches, and Pixel Watches. The AI coach is designed to adapt to individual user preferences by utilizing real-time metrics collected from Fitbit devices and additional smart health tools such as weight scales and glucose monitors. Users can engage with the AI coach to develop customized fitness routines by discussing their goals, preferences, and available equipment. As workouts progress, the coach will refine training plans based on real-time insights to help users achieve their objectives. For instance, if someone wakes up feeling fatigued due to a poor night's sleep, the coach will recommend modifications to their routine to facilitate recovery. Moreover, the AI coach will analyze sleep patterns and provide actionable suggestions for enhancing sleep quality over time, utilizing advanced algorithms to track sleep duration and stages accurately. It will also help users identify their optimal sleep requirements based on daily activity levels, allowing for a tailored sleep schedule. Google emphasizes that users can interact with the AI coach to obtain personalized, research-based advice. Questions such as, "Should I prioritize an extra hour of sleep or a workout tomorrow?" or "What are the most effective exercises for weight loss?" can be addressed with tailored responses. The redesigned Fitbit app, which serves as the platform for this new AI coach, features improved data visualization, enhanced syncing capabilities, a dark mode, and much more, all centered around coaching and AI functionality. Additionally, Google has partnered with NBA star Stephen Curry, who will act as a performance advisor to provide insights on the development of the company's health products.
