Google’s new AI feature lets you virtually try on clothes

On Thursday, Google revealed an innovative AI feature that allows users to virtually try on clothing. This launch comes alongside the introduction of enhanced price alerts and a glimpse of a future feature designed to help users discover stylish outfits and room décor inspiration through generative imagery. This virtual try-on feature is officially rolling out in the United States today, following two months of testing. Users can upload a full-length photo of themselves to see how various clothing items from Google’s Shopping Graph will look on them. To utilize this feature, individuals simply click on a product listing and select the 'try it on' icon. Once their photo is uploaded, they can visualize the apparel on their own virtual avatar and even save their favorite looks to share with friends. Previously, Google's virtual try-on technology showcased clothing on a variety of model body types, but this new function allows a personalized experience by dressing a user’s own body model. This initiative is part of Google’s broader investment in virtual try-on technology. Recently, the tech company launched an experimental app named Doppl, which employs AI to help users visualize different outfits on themselves. A Google spokesperson mentioned that while both the new try-on feature and Doppl utilize the same generative AI technology, Doppl is tailored for users seeking an in-depth virtual try-on experience to refine their personal style. Additionally, Doppl can generate AI-created videos, giving users a realistic view of how outfits would appear in real life. In addition to the virtual try-on feature, Google has made shopping more user-friendly with new price alerts. Shoppers in the United States can now set price thresholds for their desired items, including specifications for size and color. Danielle Buckley, Google’s Director of Consumer Shopping, explained that the Shopping Graph aggregates products and prices from across the web, ensuring users are notified when a product meets their specified criteria. Looking ahead, Google plans to roll out a feature this fall that will provide users with outfit and room design inspiration. This will allow users to receive suggestions for clothing suited for occasions, such as a garden party, or ideas for bedroom styling. Using its vision match technology, Google will generate a variety of visual options and link them to the 50 billion products available in the Shopping Graph for more tailored suggestions.
