Google has launched its innovative AI Mode in India, marking a significant advancement in how users engage with search. This experimental feature, now accessible in English through Google Labs, is powered by a specially tailored version of Gemini 2.5. It aims to offer a more sophisticated and interactive search experience, particularly for complex and multi-layered queries that typically require multiple searches. The AI Mode enhances user experience by dissecting questions into manageable subtopics, facilitating a deeper dive into web content. Early users have already begun to leverage this tool for more extensive queries, often two to three times longer than standard searches. They are utilizing this feature for tasks like trip planning, product comparisons, and deciphering intricate how-tos. In addition to text queries, AI Mode is optimized for voice and visual inputs, tapping into the growing use of Google Lens in India. Users can verbally pose questions or upload images directly into the app; for instance, taking a photo of a plant and requesting care instructions will yield a detailed response complete with links. The feature is seamlessly integrated with Google’s vast information systems, including real-time data from the Knowledge Graph and shopping information, and allows for follow-up inquiries to refine or broaden searches. Google assures that AI Mode maintains the company's high standards for quality and ranking, reverting to traditional search results when AI confidence is low. Furthermore, the tech giant is actively seeking new methods to enhance accuracy and factuality. Building on the success of AI Overviews, which are utilized by over 1.5 billion users monthly, AI Mode has already driven a 10% increase in engagement with complex search queries in regions like India and the US. Users in India can access this cutting-edge feature through the Labs section of the Google app on both Android and iOS devices.
