Google’s Dreambeans, its weirdest-named AI tool to date, will turn your life into a cartoon

Google Labs, the experimental arm of the tech powerhouse, has introduced an innovative AI-driven application for both iOS and Android called Dreambeans. This unique tool promises to transform everyday experiences into animated stories, providing users with a fresh perspective on their lives. So, what exactly does Dreambeans do? According to Gozde Oznur, the product lead, the app harnesses data from various Google services to create a tailored array of AI-generated "stories". These narratives span a diverse range of themes, primarily focusing on lifestyle recommendations. Oznur elaborated that users can expect suggestions for places to visit, topics to explore, activities to try, and alerts about upcoming trips and events. Dreambeans operates by utilizing users' Google data with their consent. The app analyzes information from platforms such as Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and Search History to curate a limited selection of daily stories, typically numbering between 10 to 14. This feature aims to inspire users without overwhelming them, as Oznur emphasized the app's role as a remedy for doomscrolling. For instance, Dreambeans might suggest a local coffee shop based on the user's location, or provide insights about welcoming a new puppy if the event is noted in their Google Calendar. Additionally, it may present articles that align with the user's interests, ensuring that the content remains relevant and engaging. When it comes to privacy, Oznur reassured users about the app's security measures. Only the user has access to their personalized stories, and they retain the right to delete their data at any time, as well as choose which Google services to connect. Regarding the intriguing name "Dreambeans", Oznur explained that it reflects the app's functionality. The 'dream' aspect refers to its activity during users' sleep, where it processes vast amounts of data to distill inspiration. The 'beans' component likens the experience to starting the day with a freshly brewed cup of coffee, offering a concentrated burst of creativity each morning. Currently, Dreambeans is exclusively available to eligible U.S.-based Google AI Ultra subscribers on both Android and iOS. A waitlist has also been set up for users with personal Google accounts, indicating the app's anticipated popularity.
