Google launches Doppl, a new app that lets you visualize how an outfit might look on you

Google has introduced an innovative new app named Doppl, designed to help users visualize how various outfits would look on them. This experimental app, which is now available for both iOS and Android users in the United States, employs artificial intelligence to create a digital representation of your clothing choices. To get started, users are required to upload a full-body photograph. After that, they can seamlessly try on different outfits by using images or screenshots of clothing items they find appealing—whether from thrift stores, friends, or social media. Once an outfit is selected, Doppl generates an image showing a virtual version of you dressed in that outfit. Moreover, Doppl goes a step further by transforming these static images into AI-generated videos, allowing users to visualize how the outfits would look in motion. Users can save their favorite combinations and revisit their virtual try-ons, as well as share their looks with friends. This app builds upon the recently enhanced features of Google Shopping, which previously allowed users to try on clothes virtually. By launching Doppl as a standalone app, Google aims to make this feature more accessible and provide a fun, interactive platform for users to explore their fashion sense. The tech giant also sees this app as an opportunity to gather valuable data regarding the efficacy of virtual try-on technology, potentially influencing future developments in this area. Historically, Google has provided virtual try-on options, but those were primarily focused on showcasing clothing on a variety of models. With Doppl, users can try on clothes that fit their own digital avatars. In a blog post, Google expressed its aspirations for Doppl, stating, “We hope Doppl helps you explore your style in new and exciting ways.” However, as an experimental project, users should be aware that results may sometimes vary in accuracy regarding fit and appearance. At this stage, it remains unclear if or when Doppl will be expanded to other regions.
