Android 17 will finally make cross-device usage easy without interruption: Know about ‘Continue On’ feature

During its latest developer conference, Google introduced an innovative feature called 'Continue On' for Android 17, designed to facilitate seamless task continuity across devices. This new functionality mimics Apple’s Handoff, allowing users to pick up from where they left off, whether they switch from a phone to a tablet or vice versa. The 'Continue On' feature is set to revolutionize multitasking by enabling users to move their app sessions effortlessly between devices within the Android ecosystem. When transitioning, the taskbar will automatically display recently used apps, allowing for a quick and easy switch. For instance, if a user moves from their smartphone to a tablet, the tablet will highlight the specific app that was last accessed on the phone, enabling a smooth transition with just a tap. Google has indicated that this feature will enhance productivity, particularly for activities such as reading, web browsing, and messaging. Although specific app compatibility has yet to be disclosed, the 'Continue On' feature is currently available in the Android 17 beta version (API level 37) and is anticipated to be fully launched soon. In addition to 'Continue On', Google has unveiled a host of new features for Android 17, emphasizing deeper AI integration. Among the most notable is the 'Gemini Intelligence', which promises to deliver a more personalized user experience, showcasing Google's commitment to enhancing the functionality of its mobile operating system.
