In a strategic move to enhance accessibility, Google has rolled out its latest subscription tier, Gemini AI Plus, designed to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT Go. This new offering comes as part of a growing trend among tech giants to provide advanced AI features at lower price points, making these tools available to a broader audience without the prohibitive costs typically associated with AI technology. Currently launched in Indonesia, the Gemini AI Plus plan is available for an introductory rate of IDR 37,500 (approximately ₹200) per month. After this promotional period, the subscription fee will increase to IDR 75,000 (around ₹400 monthly). While Google has yet to confirm a rollout for the Indian market, industry experts speculate that the company will expand its services there soon, particularly in light of OpenAI's recent introduction of ChatGPT Go in India. So, what exactly does Gemini AI Plus offer its subscribers? Users will gain access to the Gemini 2.5 Pro, featuring advanced Deep Research capabilities, along with a comprehensive suite of tools designed for various applications. This new plan is positioned below Google's existing premium options, such as AI Pro (₹1,950 per month) and AI Ultra (₹24,500 per month), making it a more budget-friendly choice for consumers. The launch of Gemini AI Plus closely follows OpenAI's ChatGPT Go, which is tailored for the Indian market at a subscription fee of ₹399 per month. ChatGPT Go provides users with extended access to the GPT-5 model, increased limits for image generation, longer conversational memory, and the ability to create custom GPTs or personalized AI tools. While both subscriptions aim to bridge the gap between free and paid services, Gemini AI Plus leans into the Google ecosystem, integrating seamlessly with Workspace applications and offering tools for content creation, data analysis, and video generation. Conversely, ChatGPT Go highlights versatility, document analysis, coding capabilities, and personalization. Google has noted that the AI Plus plan will not be available for business or educational customers, raising questions about its positioning in other markets, including India. As subscription models for AI become increasingly affordable, users can look forward to a wider array of competitive tools, marking a significant development in the ongoing AI competition between Google and OpenAI.
