Google adds Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search to AI Mode in Search

Google has rolled out significant updates to its AI Mode in Search, introducing three innovative features aimed at enhancing the capabilities of its artificial intelligence. Notably, two of these upgrades are exclusive to paid subscribers in the United States, while the third is available to all users of AI Mode across the country. The enhancements, announced in a recent blog post, include the introduction of the Gemini 2.5 Pro language model, a novel Deep Search functionality for more intricate queries, and an AI-driven agent that can reach out to businesses for pricing and availability information. The Gemini 2.5 Pro model is designed to tackle complex inquiries related to mathematics, coding, and logical reasoning, all within the Search interface. Beyond generating answers, it also provides relevant links for users seeking additional information. However, this feature is restricted to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers who have enrolled in the AI Mode trial via Search Labs. Users must manually select this advanced model from a dropdown menu, as the default setting remains a more general-purpose AI. The second feature, Deep Search, utilizes the power of Gemini 2.5 Pro to address nuanced questions that require a more extensive information search. This function is particularly useful for users exploring topics like relocation, education, or travel planning. For instance, individuals can receive comprehensive AI-generated reports when assessing neighborhood amenities in specific areas. Google emphasizes that this mode is ideal for academic research, financial planning, or creating tailored itineraries. Lastly, the introduction of agentic capabilities in AI Mode allows users to streamline interactions with local businesses. Those searching for information may notice a new “Have AI check pricing” button. By clicking this, the AI will ask follow-up questions to clarify the request and then make phone calls to businesses on the user’s behalf. Once the necessary information is collected, results can be sent via SMS or email. This feature is available to all AI Mode users in the US and aims to simplify the process of gathering real-time information from businesses, potentially saving users time and connecting businesses with prospective customers more effectively.
