More Gemini features are coming to Google TV

On Wednesday, Google unveiled an exciting array of AI-driven enhancements for Google TV, including a new dedicated section for YouTube Shorts directly on the home screen. This update prominently features expanded capabilities from Gemini, Google's AI platform. One of the standout additions is a 'Create' button within the Gemini tab, enabling users to explore innovative generative AI tools like Nano Banana and Veo. Initially available on Gemini-compatible TCL TVs in the United States, these features are set to roll out to a wider range of devices soon. Nano Banana, which specializes in image generation and editing, allows users to alter their photos with simple voice commands. Whether it's changing outfits, swapping backgrounds, or crafting entirely new scenes, this tool aims to foster a fun, interactive atmosphere. Users can engage in playful prompts, such as asking the AI to dress their dad in a comical outfit, sparking laughter among family and friends. Conversely, Veo enables users to create unique clips or animate still images by providing descriptive scenarios. For example, one could command the AI to 'make my grandfather moonwalk in space.' Additionally, Google Photos is receiving a significant upgrade, powered by Gemini. With enhanced search capabilities, users can effortlessly locate specific memories—be it vacations or birthday celebrations—without sifting through their entire photo library. Results can be viewed in a user-friendly format, allowing for easy full-screen displays or slideshow launches. A new 'Remix' feature will also be introduced, permitting users to apply various artistic styles, such as watercolor or oil painting, to their images. Furthermore, the 'Dynamic Slideshows' feature will incorporate animated layouts, frames, and color enhancements, enabling users to transform any Google Photos collection into an eye-catching, TV-ready slideshow by selecting Google Photos in the screensaver settings. In addition to AI innovations, Google is tapping into the rising trend of short-form video content. Soon, a 'Short videos for you' section will be added to the Google TV home screen, highlighting content from YouTube Shorts. This move follows YouTube's recent introduction of a feature allowing mobile users to hide Shorts, indicating mixed interest levels among viewers. Google also hints that this initiative could later extend to other platforms, following Instagram's earlier expansion of its TV app to Google TV devices in the U.S. earlier this year.
