Google TV’s new Gemini features keep fans updated on sports teams and more

On Tuesday, Google introduced an array of innovative features powered by Gemini for Google TV, significantly enriching the user experience. These enhancements include AI-driven visual responses, comprehensive explorations of various topics, and narrated summaries of sports events. One of the standout features is the AI-powered visual responses. For instance, if users inquire about the current score of a Warriors game, they will receive live scorecards along with information on where to catch the game. Additionally, users can look up recipes, and Gemini will respond with pertinent video tutorials, making it easier to follow along. Showcased at CES 2026, another exciting feature is the “deep dives.” This function allows users to delve into intricate subjects with greater depth. When prompted with a question like, "What are the effects of cold plunging?" Gemini provides narrated visual explanations on a wide range of topics, including health, economics, and technology. Users can initiate these deep dives by selecting "Dive deeper" in the response options or by choosing the “Learn” option found in the Gemini tab on the home screen. For sports enthusiasts, Gemini has rolled out “sports briefs,” catering to those who wish to keep up with their favorite leagues without watching every game live. Users can request timely narrated overviews of events from leagues such as the NBA, NHL, and MLB, allowing them to easily catch up on highlights and significant updates. This feature follows the launch of “news briefs” last year, aimed at keeping viewers informed on the latest headlines. Currently, these features are being launched for users in the United States and Canada, with plans to expand to Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K. this upcoming spring, along with additional countries in the pipeline. Gemini initially debuted on Google TV in September 2025, starting as a limited release for select TCL televisions. Since then, it has broadened its reach to more devices and has received multiple updates, including the ability to adjust settings through natural language commands. Users can now easily rectify issues like dim screens or audio imbalances, streamlining their experience without navigating complex menus. Furthermore, users can conduct voice searches within their Google Photos library and apply AI-generated styles and effects, enhancing the overall functionality of Google TV.
