Google finalises $32 billion deal to acquire cybersecurity startup Wiz

In a significant move to enhance its cybersecurity offerings, Google has finalized the acquisition of Wiz, a cloud and AI security platform, in a deal valued at $32 billion. This strategic acquisition will see Wiz integrate into Google Cloud while continuing to support customers across various cloud environments. The acquisition is noteworthy as it follows Wiz's impressive achievement of surpassing $1 billion in annual recurring revenue by 2025. Google aims to bolster its cloud security capabilities, particularly in multicloud settings, to help organizations navigate the complexities of fast-evolving cyber threats. In a blog post, Google emphasized that this investment is crucial for improving cloud security, especially as businesses increasingly adopt AI technologies. The tech giant noted that cyber attackers are leveraging AI to execute their operations with unprecedented speed and sophistication. By partnering with Wiz, Google plans to offer a unified security platform that enhances the detection, prevention, and response to various security threats. The collaboration with Wiz will enable Google to stay ahead of emerging risks associated with AI, ensuring protection against threats aimed at AI models while also utilizing AI to empower security professionals in threat detection. Despite the acquisition, Wiz will maintain its operations across multiple cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud. Interestingly, negotiations for the acquisition began back in 2024 when Google initially proposed a $23 billion offer, which Wiz ultimately declined. However, discussions resumed in early 2025, culminating in a revised all-cash deal of $32 billion, reflecting a $9 billion increase from the original offer.
