On Wednesday, Google unveiled an enhanced version of its Trends Explore page, now integrated with capabilities powered by its Gemini AI. This upgrade, which begins rolling out on desktop today, aims to simplify the process of identifying and comparing trends related to user searches. For content creators, journalists, and researchers, the Trends Explore page has been an indispensable resource for analyzing search interest across various topics over time and by geographical region. The new Gemini functionality significantly streamlines the labor-intensive aspects of trend exploration, cutting down research time and revealing connections that users may have overlooked. The redesigned Explore page introduces a side panel that automatically identifies and compares relevant trends based on the user’s interests. To facilitate deeper dives into topics, a list of suggested prompts powered by Gemini will also be available. Visually, the page has undergone a makeover, featuring distinct icons and color schemes for each search term, making it easier for users to link terms to their corresponding data on the graph. Furthermore, Google has expanded the number of terms that can be compared and has doubled the number of rising queries visible on each timeline. To illustrate the new features, Google’s blog highlighted trending dog breeds, showcasing how the AI can automatically populate graphs with up to eight search terms, such as “golden retriever” and “beagle.” It also provides suggestions for related topics, like “hypoallergenic dog breeds” and “large dog breeds,” enhancing the exploration process. Users will benefit from the ability to hover over terms for edits and apply filters based on country, time, and data properties, allowing for a tailored Trends timeline. This update aligns with Google’s commitment to integrating Gemini into its primary services, following similar enhancements to Search, Gmail, Maps, and Docs.
