In a bold move to transform Chromebooks into viable gaming machines, Google has joined forces with Nvidia, introducing a unique offering for new Chromebook buyers. Starting today, customers who purchase a Chromebook will receive a complimentary year of the GeForce Now Fast Pass service. This initiative comes after Google decided to discontinue its efforts to support Steam on Chromebooks, marking a shift in its strategy to cater to gamers. The Fast Pass service is designed to optimize the gaming experience, providing users with fewer wait times for server access and an ad-free environment. However, it does come with certain limitations on gameplay duration. Previously, when Google was still operating its Stadia game streaming service, new Chromebook purchases often included several months of the Pro subscription. As Stadia has been phased out, Google has turned to Nvidia’s established GeForce Now platform, which allows users to stream games rendered on remote servers to various devices, including Chromebooks. The GeForce Now Fast Pass is distinct from Nvidia’s standard subscription options. While it shares features with the free tier of GeForce Now, it offers priority server access, eliminating the long queues that can frustrate gamers. Additionally, it utilizes Nvidia’s more advanced RTX servers, typically reserved for the Performance tier, which costs $10 per month or $100 annually. With this innovative partnership, Google aims to elevate the gaming capabilities of Chromebooks, making them more appealing to a broader audience of gamers.
