In a notable shift towards artificial intelligence, Google is presenting its employees in the global business organization (GBO) with a voluntary exit option. This move comes as the tech giant prepares for significant internal changes to adapt to an evolving digital landscape. Philipp Schindler, Google's Chief Business Officer, communicated this initiative through an internal email, emphasizing the company’s robust position as it heads into the new year. He remarked, "The game is dynamic, the pace is electric, and the stakes are high," urging all staff to fully commit to embracing AI for enhanced impact. Eligible employees for the voluntary exit program are those who may be resistant to the upcoming AI developments and are already considering leaving the company. This package provides financial support and benefits to assist in their transition. However, it is important to note that only certain roles, particularly within solutions teams, sales, and corporate development, qualify for this opportunity. Schindler clarified that to minimize disruption for customers, the voluntary exit program does not extend to all GBO functions. Specifically, employees engaged in large customer sales teams in the U.S. and those in customer-facing roles are excluded. This is not the first instance of such a buyout option; Google previously offered similar packages to employees in its Android and Core engineering teams last year, as well as in the UK. Other major tech companies like Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft are also realigning their structures and roles to better integrate AI into their operations.
