Google Meet has introduced an exciting new feature designed to enhance users' appearance during video conferences: an AI-powered makeup filter. This addition aims to elevate the platform's appeal, joining the ranks of competitors like Microsoft Teams and Zoom, which already offer similar virtual makeup functionalities. Users can choose from 12 distinct makeup styles, accessible within the 'Appearance' section under 'Portrait touch-up.' This feature has been part of Google Meet since 2023 and includes options for complexion smoothing, under-eye brightening, and eye whitening, providing a range of enhancements to boost confidence during meetings. One of the standout aspects of this feature is its ability to maintain a natural look. The virtual makeup will stay fixed on the user's face, even as they move, ensuring that it appears realistic. For instance, if someone takes a sip of coffee, the filter will remain in place, rather than shifting unexpectedly. To enhance user experience, the makeup filter is turned off by default, allowing individuals the choice to activate it at any time during a video call, whether before or during the meeting. Additionally, Google Meet will remember the selected makeup preferences for future calls, making it easier for users to maintain their preferred look. This AI-driven enhancement began its rollout on October 8 for both mobile and web platforms.
