Google Finance gets a dedicated app for Android

On Thursday, Google introduced a brand new mobile application dedicated to Google Finance, designed to enhance how users monitor their investments. This app features personalized watchlists, real-time market data, and live financial news. A standout element is the AI-driven "Key Moments" feature, which offers insights into stock movements and market trends. Initially available on Android, Google has announced plans to release an iOS version in the upcoming months. The company is also working on additional functionalities, such as the ability to listen to live earnings calls, which will further enrich the user experience. The launch of this standalone finance app signifies Google's intention to establish a foothold in the competitive arena of financial information applications. This move places the tech giant in direct competition with established platforms like Yahoo Finance and trading applications such as Robinhood. Additionally, Google is enhancing its web-based Google Finance experience, which was unveiled last year and is now emerging from beta with an array of new features. One of the major updates includes the rollout of global portfolios, allowing users to track their investments in a unified dashboard that displays holdings and performance metrics. For those with existing Google Finance portfolios, these will automatically be accessible. Users can also create new portfolios by uploading files or describing their investments via a chatbot. Once portfolios are established, the AI research tool can be employed to pose questions like, "What sectors are currently underrepresented in my portfolio?" Moreover, Google has introduced an AI feature that permits users to set tasks using natural language commands. This includes receiving timely briefings on market changes or summaries of their investment performance. Users can leverage their watchlist or portfolio to gain tailored insights, with Google Finance handling tasks seamlessly in the background. The new portfolio and task features are now live on the web, with the app version expected to follow shortly.
