In an exciting development, Google is launching the 'Personal Intelligence' feature in its Gemini app for users in India. This innovative feature aims to create a more personalized AI experience by linking users' Google accounts, such as Gmail and Google Photos. First unveiled in early 2026, Gemini's Personal Intelligence is designed to enhance the AI assistant's contextual awareness and utility, tightly integrating it with everyday applications. The rollout of this feature will be optional, with users needing to opt-in manually to connect their Google apps for a customized experience. On the privacy front, Google reassures users that their data is securely managed within its ecosystem. "Because this data already lives at Google securely, you don't have to send sensitive data elsewhere to start personalising your experience. This is a key differentiator," the company stated. Importantly, Gemini will not utilize users' Gmail or Google Photos data for training purposes; instead, it will focus on specific prompts within the app to enhance functionality. Users will maintain complete control over which applications they wish to connect with the AI, including options like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search, to enrich their Gemini experience. The Personal Intelligence feature boasts two primary advantages: the ability to reason across complex information sources and retrieve specific details from emails or photos to answer user queries. For instance, Gemini can pull booking details directly from Gmail, access screenshots from Photos, or recommend restaurants based on relevant YouTube content. Initially, the Personal Intelligence feature will be accessible to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra users in India, with plans to extend availability to free-tier users in the coming weeks. It will be compatible across Web, Android, and iOS platforms, as well as all models within the Gemini model picker.
