Google has unveiled a new feature that allows users to change their primary Gmail address while preserving all the data associated with their existing account. This function is being gradually rolled out and is confirmed on various language versions of Google’s support page. When a user opts to switch their '@gmail.com' email address to a different one, all saved data—including photos, messages, and emails—will remain intact. According to Google, the original email address will serve as an alias, ensuring that users can still access their accounts through either the old or the new email address across all Google services, such as Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and Drive. This update aims to enhance account management for users, but Google has cautioned that the rollout is phased, meaning not everyone will gain access to the feature at the same time. Users are encouraged to check the email section of their Google Account settings under ‘personal information’ to see if the option is available. It’s important to note that once a new Gmail address is created, users will be unable to create another new one for a period of 12 months. However, the old email address can be reused at any time. Despite assurances regarding data safety, Google recommends that users back up their information before making changes, as some app settings may reset during the process.
