On Tuesday, Google unveiled exciting enhancements to its Google Fi telecommunications service, introducing AI-driven noise reduction for calls and an improved RCS web messaging experience. The new AI audio technology aims to filter out background noise, significantly improving voice clarity during calls, even when communicating with users on landlines or outdated devices. This feature is designed to foster more natural conversations and will be activated automatically, although users have the option to disable it if they prefer. This rollout is expected to commence next month. In addition to the audio improvements, Google Fi is set to upgrade its 'Messages for web' feature, bringing a fresh interface that fully supports RCS. This means users can now share high-resolution images and videos seamlessly within their message threads. The updated messaging service is anticipated to launch in December. Moreover, Google Fi is expanding its Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ feature, which connects users to premium Wi-Fi networks for a more stable connection in busy environments such as airports and shopping centers. Jane Harnett, Senior Product Manager for Google Fi Wireless, highlighted that this feature will now be available in millions of locations, including major airports like LAX, ORD, and JFK, as well as select malls and stores. It operates automatically at no additional cost, and Google Fi is the only major carrier that ensures users’ online activities are protected with an encrypted connection while using premium Wi-Fi. Users will know they are connected through Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ when they see the W+ icon in their status bar. Additionally, the Google Fi app will soon incorporate personalized AI-generated summaries that clarify charges, monthly alterations, and the potential impact of plan changes on future expenses. As part of this announcement, Google Fi is also launching a special promotion for new subscribers, offering 50% off for the first 15 months for those who bring their own device and sign up for either the 'Unlimited Essentials' or 'Unlimited Plan'.
