Google brings Search Live to India, AI mode gains support for 7 new languages

Google has officially launched its Search Live feature in India, marking the country's debut as the second location to receive this innovative tool after the United States. This AI-driven functionality enables users to interact with Google Search by utilizing their smartphone's camera and microphone. The Search Live feature operates similarly to the existing Gemini Live functionality found within the Gemini app. However, a significant distinction lies in its ability to conduct real-time internet searches while conversing with the user, providing instantaneous access to current information. For instance, in a scenario shared by Google, a user seeking guidance on crafting the perfect iced matcha can query Search Live about the sequence in which to mix ingredients, receiving immediate feedback from the chatbot. The rollout of Search Live in India is set to expand over the coming week, with the feature available in both Hindi and English. Notably, Google has reported that Indian users represent the largest demographic for voice and visual search globally. To access the new Search Live functionality, users should ensure their Google app is updated to the latest version on Android or iOS devices. They can then tap the Live icon located beneath the search bar or utilize Google Lens to select the Live tab. By positioning their camera on the subject of interest, users can engage by either speaking or typing their queries. A helpful tip is to keep the subject framed within the viewfinder, allowing users to tap on any displayed results for further information. In addition to launching Search Live, Google has announced that its AI Mode will now support seven more Indian languages, including Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This enhancement is powered by the sophisticated reasoning capabilities of Google's Gemini model for Search, which extends beyond mere translation to truly understand the nuances of local languages. The expanded language support is expected to roll out over the next week.
