On Wednesday, Google revealed its plans to expand the integration of Gemini into Chrome for several new countries, including India, Canada, and New Zealand. This exciting rollout allows users to engage with the Gemini AI chatbot via a convenient sidebar on their desktop, making it easier to ask questions about the visible content, access information from Gmail, Keep, Drive, and YouTube, and compare details across tabs. Among the notable enhancements, Gemini will now support a variety of languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, in addition to English and other newly included languages in Chrome. Gemini was initially launched in the U.S. last September, featuring a floating window, and the sidebar tools were introduced earlier this year. Users who gain access to this innovative feature will see an "Ask Gemini" icon on their tab bar. By clicking this icon, they can pose questions, summarize content, or create quizzes to deepen their understanding of various topics. The AI's ability to work across multiple tabs is particularly useful for comparing products or planning trips, allowing users to reference information from different sources seamlessly. Gemini also integrates with various Google services, including Gmail, Maps, Calendar, and YouTube, to provide personalized responses based on user data. For example, users can draft and send emails directly from the sidebar without navigating away from their current tab. Additionally, they can request summaries of YouTube videos complete with timestamped key points. Moreover, users can leverage Google’s Nano Banana 2 generative AI tool within Gemini to enhance images. When shopping for furniture, for instance, users can upload a photo of their room and visualize how new items would fit into their space. The rollout of Gemini support in Chrome for iOS in India will also be introduced, with options appearing in the address bar through a page tools icon. Notably, while Google previously launched advanced agentic capabilities for U.S.-based AI Pro and AI Ultra users, this specific feature will not be part of the expansion for users in India, New Zealand, and Canada.
