Google’s AI Mode adds 5 new languages including Hindi, Japanese, and Korean

In a significant move to broaden its reach, Google has announced the expansion of its AI Mode, the advanced AI-driven Search feature, to five additional languages. This update comes after a six-month period during which the feature was exclusively available in English. The newly supported languages include Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. The announcement was made on Monday and follows last month's introduction of the AI-powered experience to 180 new markets, initially launched in the U.S. and later extended to the U.K. and India. Hema Budaraju, Google’s VP of Product Management for Search, emphasized that this expansion allows users around the globe to engage with AI Mode in their preferred languages, enabling them to pose more complex inquiries while delving deeper into web content. Originally rolled out in March as an experiment for Google One AI Premium subscribers, AI Mode is Google’s competitive response to other AI search platforms like Perplexity and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. The feature employs a tailored version of Gemini 2.5, equipped with multimodal and reasoning capabilities. In August, Google introduced additional functionalities in AI Mode, allowing users to secure restaurant reservations, with plans for local service appointments and event ticket bookings in the pipeline. Currently, these capabilities are accessible only to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S., available through the “Agentic capabilities in AI Mode” experiment in Labs, with the Ultra tier priced at $249.99 monthly. Users can access Google’s AI Mode through a dedicated tab on the search results page and a button in the search bar. The company is reportedly moving towards making this AI-enhanced search experience the default option in the near future, as indicated by Logan Kilpatrick, the group product manager for Google DeepMind. Despite criticism regarding how recent AI updates may impact search traffic, Google has asserted that its AI features do not negatively affect website visits.
