In a bold move, Google is advancing its Vids editing platform with a significant AI upgrade, despite OpenAI scaling back its video generation efforts. The latest version integrates cutting-edge video and audio models, allowing users to select from a variety of customizable avatars for their generated content. The standout feature of this upgrade is Veo 3.1, which Google first introduced in its Gemini product last year. This model promises remarkable enhancements in realism and consistency, making it a powerful tool for video creators. However, while Google markets Veo towards filmmakers, Vids is designed for broader applications, such as crafting animated party invitations, dynamic business reels, or personalized video greetings. Users can access Vids for free, but limitations apply without a subscription. Free accounts are restricted to just 10 video generations per month. In contrast, AI Pro subscribers can produce up to 50 videos, while those enrolled in the premium AI Ultra plan—available for both personal and enterprise use—can create an impressive 1,000 videos monthly. Notably, the videos generated are capped at eight seconds in duration and feature a resolution of 720p. Additionally, the new Lyria music creation models have been integrated into Vids, enabling users to generate music seamlessly. This AI music tool allows users to specify the desired mood without needing to input lyrics. The result is a quick, 30-second or three-minute track—ideal for casual projects like animated birthday cards. Similar to the video features, AI subscribers enjoy increased limits for music generation as well.
