Google’s update for Veo 3.1 lets users create vertical videos through reference images

In a significant update announced on Tuesday, Google has revamped its Veo 3.1 AI video generation model, introducing a feature that allows users to create vertical videos tailored for social media platforms. This new capability is particularly designed for generating engaging content for YouTube Shorts, Instagram, and TikTok, enabling users to select the 9:16 vertical format directly, thus eliminating the need for cropping. The enhancements to Veo 3.1 not only streamline the video creation process but also enrich the expressiveness and dynamism of the output. Users providing reference images will notice a marked improvement in character expressions and movements, even with concise prompts. Additionally, the update promises greater consistency among characters, objects, and backgrounds, leading to a more polished final product. Another exciting aspect of this update is the ability to blend various elements, including characters, backgrounds, objects, and textures, resulting in a harmonious video presentation. These new features can be accessed via the Gemini app, while professional users have the option to utilize them through Google’s video editor, Flow, the Gemini API, Vertex AI, and Google Vids. Moreover, the update introduces enhanced upscaling capabilities, allowing videos to reach 1080p and 4K resolutions. This feature is available across Flow, the Gemini API, and Vertex AI within Google Cloud, promising a superior viewing experience for all users.
