Google’s Circle to Search now remembers your song history on Android, report

Google has begun the rollout of its Song Search History feature for Android devices, enhancing the functionality of its widely-used Song Search tool. This update, which is part of version 16.27 of the Google app, comes several months after iOS users gained access to the feature in February. The new capability allows users to view a comprehensive log of songs they have previously searched using Google’s AI-driven song identification technology. This feature enables users to discover songs by playing, humming, or singing a melody. The Song Search function now presents a familiar interface, featuring an additional icon in the top-right corner that, when tapped, reveals a list of recently identified tracks. This list showcases album artwork, song titles, artist names, and the precise time each song was searched. Organized by month, users can see up to 10 recent results on the main screen. For those interested in a deeper dive, an option labeled 'Show full history' is available at the bottom of the list. This option takes users to Google’s My Activity page, where a more extensive record of song searches can be found. While this page does not display the album art seen in the main interface, it still provides crucial details such as track titles, artist names, and search times. Notably, users can also create a home screen shortcut for quicker access to their song search history, facilitating a seamless experience without needing to navigate through the main app interface. Although early indications of this feature appeared back in February through an APK teardown, it wasn't until April that Google started to roll it out to beta testers. This enhancement marks a significant step in improving user engagement with the Song Search functionality on Android devices.
