Google is making strides in revolutionizing the online shopping experience through the integration of generative AI. The tech giant has begun rolling out its much-anticipated AI Mode search features, which were initially revealed during the Google I/O event back in May. This innovation aims to provide users with a more interactive and efficient way to shop online. With the launch of AI Mode, shoppers in the U.S. will soon be able to pose complex questions regarding products and receive tailored suggestions, guides, and other helpful content generated by the AI. Google's extensive "Shopping Graph," which compiles data from various retailers, positions it uniquely to offer relevant recommendations. However, as with any AI system, users are advised to be cautious of potential inaccuracies in the suggestions provided. In addition to shopping assistance, Google is introducing a feature dubbed "agentic checkout." This allows users to set specific price alerts for products, notifying them when an item falls within their desired price range. Once alerted, customers can authorize a purchase directly through Google Pay, streamlining the buying process. Currently, this feature is only available with select retailers such as Chewy, Wayfair, and certain Shopify merchants, but it holds promise for enhancing user convenience and potentially saving money during the holiday shopping season.
