NotebookLM’s new update will help you build source repository from chat

On Monday, Google unveiled an exciting update to its NotebookLM research tool, introducing a range of new features alongside the transition to Gemini 3.5 as the default model. The latest enhancements include Antigravity-powered software skills designed to assist users in research and the generation of various outputs. This update mirrors Google's previous efforts to integrate coding functionalities into its search products, aiming to create a more engaging experience for users seeking answers. With this new version of NotebookLM, users can initiate discussions about their projects directly within the app, which will then help build a comprehensive knowledge base by recommending diverse sources through its research capabilities and Google Search. Notably, the updated tool allows users to obtain primary sources in multiple languages and discover new material from related authors. Previously, users had to supply their own sources to start developing a knowledge base, making this new feature a significant enhancement. Additionally, users can now provide detailed instructions to NotebookLM for generating outputs in various formats, which can be edited afterward. The export options have expanded to include data visualizations and charts (.png, .svg), document formats (PDFs, .docx, Markdown, text files), Nano-banana-powered images, structured data (.csv, .json), as well as compatibility with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. This update follows the introduction of the “Deep Research” mode last year, which focused on structured online research. With the new rollout, NotebookLM will also present users with detailed steps in the chat, illustrating how it arrived at specific answers, allowing for a thorough review of the output. Google confirmed that these updates are now available to Google AI Ultra users and all Workspace business customers with AI Ultra Access and AI Expanded Access, with plans to extend the features to a broader audience soon.
