Google is significantly upgrading its Chrome browser with the introduction of a new AI feature called Auto Browse. This enhancement is part of the ongoing integration of the Gemini AI system, which has been gradually introduced over the past few months. Auto Browse aims to simplify user experience by automating repetitive tasks within the browser. Similar to existing tools such as OpenAI's Atlas, this feature allows users to delegate time-consuming activities to the AI, freeing them up for more important tasks. The AI functionalities will now be more accessible, appearing through an AI button that has been present at the top of the Chrome window. Previously, clicking this button would only open Gemini in a pop-up window. However, Google has revamped this feature to default to a split-screen or “Sidepanel” view, providing a more spacious environment for the AI to interact with web pages. This change not only enhances usability but also facilitates smoother interactions when utilizing other applications integrated with Chrome. The updated Gemini can now seamlessly connect with various Google services such as Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Google Shopping, and Google Flights directly from the Chrome interface. Although this function was technically introduced earlier in the year, its broader discussion and rollout have only recently begun. Additionally, Gemini in Chrome is equipped with Nano Banana technology, enabling users to access and edit images directly from the web without the need to download and upload files separately. Users can simply describe the edits they want in the Sidepanel, choosing between a higher-quality Pro model and a quicker standard version, similar to options available in the Gemini app. With these advancements, Google is positioning Chrome as a more intelligent and user-friendly browser experience.
