Android 16 beta introduces shrinking screen animation for Gemini AI and visual tweaks to Pixel launcher

The latest update to Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 from Google introduces significant enhancements, particularly for its Gemini AI assistant. This update features a fresh launch animation that provides a more engaging interaction, underscoring Google's commitment to refining AI experiences across its platform. As reported by 9to5Google, this new animation is currently rolling out to a select group of Pixel users. It activates when the power button is pressed and held, bringing up the Gemini overlay. One of the key improvements is the restoration of haptic feedback, which had been erratic in previous versions due to a known issue. The updated animation slightly shrinks the screen while the overlay slides upwards, creating a visual effect that mimics the screen edges converging, thereby offering a smoother transition into the Gemini assistant. Once users access the Gemini interface, they gain new functionalities such as 'Share Screen with Live' and 'Ask About Screen', alongside the traditional 'Ask Gemini' feature. These additions hint at a more integrated AI experience within Android’s multitasking and accessibility capabilities. In addition to the Gemini enhancements, the QPR1 Beta 2 update also revamps the Pixel Launcher search bar, making it more compact and adding a new 'AI Mode' toggle. This shift further embeds generative capabilities into the main navigation of Android. Moreover, the update enhances support for connected displays, enriching the desktop-like experience when pairing Android devices with external monitors. New features such as flexible window tiling, improved app compatibility, and multi-instance support aim to elevate Android's functionality in productivity environments.
