Google will put more links to websites in AI Overviews

In a significant shift, Google is reimagining the layout of its search results to incorporate more links to external websites within its AI Overviews. For the last two years, these AI-generated summaries have dominated the top of search pages, much to the dismay of content creators who have seen their visibility decline as a result. While Google has not acknowledged any responsibility for the drop in web traffic that many sites are experiencing, the tech giant is introducing several updates aimed at addressing these concerns. One of the standout features will be a new section titled 'Further Exploration' located at the bottom of AI Overviews. This section will offer a curated list of links to related articles and analyses, making it easier for users to delve deeper into topics of interest. For instance, a search on urban green spaces will not only yield AI-generated insights but also direct users to specific projects in cities like New York and Singapore. Additionally, AI Overviews may feature a segment on 'Expert Advice,' which will provide snippets from various sources that are pertinent to the user’s query, including news articles, reviews, and social media discussions. Each snippet will come with a link, allowing users to engage further with the full content. Moreover, Google is committed to increasing the number of links within its AI responses. These links will appear as small prompts at the conclusion of relevant paragraphs. Users can click on these to view the sources that informed the AI's conclusions. Hovering over links in both AI Overviews and AI Mode will also yield a pop-up with additional information about the website, enhancing the user experience and credibility of the information provided.
