Google plans to let software engineers use AI assistants in job interviews

In a groundbreaking shift, Google is set to revolutionize its interview process for software engineering positions by allowing candidates to employ AI assistants during evaluations. Interviewers will assess various competencies, including AI fluency, prompt engineering, output validation, and debugging abilities. A spokesperson for Google confirmed that the AI assistant used during this phase will be their own model, Gemini. Brian Ong, Google's vice president of recruiting, emphasized the company's commitment to evolving its interview methods to reflect the realities of modern engineering roles shaped by AI. The new format signifies a broader shift in the tech industry, where AI is increasingly integrated into the development process. Recent reports indicate that AI now generates a significant portion of new code at Google, with predictions that this trend will continue to grow.
