Sources indicate that the Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) and the Mandiant team have experienced workforce reductions over the past two weeks. Employees have begun to share their experiences on LinkedIn following the layoffs. One such individual, Andrew Kopcienski, a Principal Intelligence Analyst, expressed his disappointment online, stating, "I was laid off last night, alongside a lot of other great folks at Google Threat Intelligence Group." However, Google has not officially acknowledged the number of positions eliminated, leaving the total workforce impact unclear. The Google Threat Intelligence Group is well-regarded for its work on investigating cyber threats, including attacks from hackers and nation-states. Their reports and research are frequently utilized by governments, corporations, and cybersecurity professionals aiming to bolster their defenses. Mandiant, a cybersecurity firm acquired by Google in 2022, also saw job losses among its personnel, contributing to the broader trend of layoffs within the Google Cloud division.
