Chrome for Android now lets you move the address bar to the bottom, too

Google's Chrome browser for Android is embracing a significant design shift, now allowing users to relocate their address bar to the bottom of the screen. This update, announced on Tuesday, mirrors a feature that Apple's Safari introduced with the launch of iOS 15 in 2021. With this latest version, users who favor a more streamlined experience can customize the position of the address bar, opting for a layout that enhances usability on mobile devices. Previously, this option was limited to Chrome for iOS, but Google has taken a more user-friendly approach by not imposing the change on everyone. To move the address bar, users simply need to long-press on it and select the option to shift it down. Additionally, adjustments can be made within Chrome’s Settings menu. This repositioning is particularly beneficial as it brings the address bar closer to users' thumbs, making typing and navigation more comfortable. When Apple first introduced the address bar at the top, it faced backlash, with users expressing frustration over how it interfered with website interaction, blocking essential elements. In response to this feedback, Apple later adjusted the feature, moving the bar below the page content and making it an optional setting. Following a similar philosophy, Google is rolling out this feature gradually, starting today, with all Android users expected to have access in the coming weeks.
