Sundar Pichai reacts to Google AI Pro going free for Jio users

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, has expressed enthusiasm over a new collaboration with Reliance that will make the Google AI Pro subscription available for free to Jio users. This exciting partnership was unveiled in a blog post on Thursday, detailing that eligible Jio customers can enjoy the Google AI Pro subscription at no cost for a duration of 18 months. In a message shared on X, Pichai stated, "Excited to partner with @RelianceJio to bring the best of Google AI to India. Eligible Jio users will receive our AI Pro plan at no extra cost for 18 months, including Gemini 2.5 Pro, 2TB of storage, and our latest AI creation tools. Can't wait to see what we'll build together!" He further added that this initiative aims to democratize access to advanced AI tools for consumers, businesses, and the vibrant developer community in India. Mukesh Ambani, chairman of the Reliance Group, also commented on the partnership, saying, "Reliance Intelligence aims to make intelligence services accessible to 1.45 billion Indians. Through our collaboration with strategic partners like Google, we seek to empower every citizen and enterprise in India to utilize intelligent tools for innovation and growth." This announcement follows recent developments in the AI landscape, including OpenAI's decision to offer free ChatGPT Go subscriptions to users in India for one year. Earlier this year, Airtel had also initiated a partnership with the AI startup Perplexity, providing its Pro subscription for free to all users. To take advantage of this offer, Jio users must subscribe to a plan priced at ₹349 or higher, applicable to both prepaid and postpaid customers. Continued access to the subscription requires an active 5G unlimited plan for the entire 18-month period. Initially, the offer is targeted at users aged 18-25, with plans to extend it to all Jio customers in the future. Users can claim the subscription by accessing the MyJio app or website, logging in with their phone number, and following the instructions to activate the Google AI Pro subscription. The AI Pro plan provides users with access to Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro model, along with higher usage limits for image generation through the Gemini Nano Banana model and video creation through the Veo 3.1 Flash model, alongside the generous 2TB of storage capacity.
