In an exciting development for Gmail users, Google has introduced a feature that allows individuals to change their outdated email addresses, a long-awaited solution for those still clinging to their high school monikers. This update enables users to replace their current @gmail.com address with a new one while preserving all their data and connected services. Currently, the announcement appears to be primarily visible on the Hindi version of Google's support page, indicating that the initial rollout may target users in India or Hindi-speaking regions. The support documentation hints that the feature will gradually expand to all Gmail users, although global availability could take some time to implement fully. Interestingly, the English version of the support page still reflects the previous policy, stating that @gmail.com addresses generally cannot be altered. Google has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the specific regions that will gain access to this feature first. One of the significant advantages of this update is that when users change their email address, their original address will remain active as an alias. This means that any emails sent to the old address will still arrive in the inbox, and it can still be used for signing into various Google services such as Drive, Maps, and YouTube. Previously, users were faced with the cumbersome task of creating a new account and manually transferring their data, a process that often disrupted their connections with third-party applications. Google has assured users that upon updating their email address, existing data—including photos, messages, and emails—will remain intact. Moreover, users can choose to revert to their old Google Account email address whenever they wish. However, there are some restrictions: accounts that change their Gmail address will not be able to create another new Gmail address for the subsequent 12 months, and the newly selected address cannot be deleted. This change was first noted in user forums and tech communities, as Google has not yet issued an official announcement or press release regarding the update.
