Google says it’s fixed Gmail issues with spam and misclassification

On Saturday morning, Gmail users across the board faced significant disruptions, with many reporting issues related to email misclassification and an influx of spam. The problems reportedly began around 5 AM Pacific Time, with users noticing that emails were being incorrectly sorted into their Primary inbox instead of the usual Promotions, Social, or Updates categories. In addition, many found that legitimate messages from known senders were flagged as spam, leading to frustrations voiced on social media. Users expressed their concerns, stating that it felt like all spam was flooding directly into their inboxes, and that Gmail's filtering system appeared to be malfunctioning. Throughout the day, Google kept users updated on their official Workspace status dashboard, indicating that the team was actively working on resolving the issues. By Saturday evening, the company announced that the problems had been completely rectified for all users. According to Google's update, "Some Gmail users experienced a misclassification of emails in their inbox, delays in receiving email." They also noted that residual spam warnings may still affect messages received prior to the resolution. The tech giant committed to conducting a thorough internal investigation and promised to release an analysis of the incident once it was complete.
