Gitar, a startup that uses agents to secure code, emerges from stealth with $9 million

In response to the challenges posed by the rise of "vibe coding," a new startup, Gitar, is stepping into the spotlight with a mission to tackle the prevalent issue of code overload. This phenomenon, characterized by the overwhelming influx of AI-generated code, has left many organizations grappling with the complexities and quality concerns associated with managing such vast amounts of code. Founded by Ali-Reza Adl-Tabatabai, a former Intel Labs, Google, and Uber expert, Gitar recently emerged from stealth mode, securing $9 million in funding led by Venrock, with additional investments from Sierra Ventures. The two-year-old startup offers subscription-based access to its innovative platform, which utilizes AI agents to enhance code quality through a variety of operations, including thorough code reviews and efficient management of continuous integration workflows. Adl-Tabatabai, serving as CEO, explained that the surge in AI-generated code necessitates more extensive reviews, additional tests, and increased troubleshooting of continuous integration failures. He emphasized that Gitar's primary function is "code validation," ensuring that the software produced within enterprises meets the necessary standards before deployment. "Generation produces code; validation makes it trustworthy. Gitar is the workflow agent that orchestrates reviews, tests, and diagnostics from start to finish," he stated. Looking ahead, Adl-Tabatabai envisions a future where automation plays an even larger role in software development. He acknowledged the importance of human oversight in current production processes but believes that Gitar's platform can significantly reduce the reliance on manual reviews, allowing companies to expedite shipping while maintaining quality. "We have a validation agent that can automatically ensure that your code is safe to ship, involving humans only in exceptional cases," he asserted. While the automated code-review landscape is becoming increasingly competitive, Gitar aims to set itself apart by focusing specifically on post-code writing challenges. "Most of the market chased code generation. We didn’t," Adl-Tabatabai remarked. "Gitar is built around what happens after code is written." The startup plans to utilize its new funding to expand its engineering and product teams, further developing its systems to deliver scalable services to clients.
