General Intuition, a startup based in New York, is actively seeking to secure approximately $300 million in funding, aiming to elevate its valuation to over $2 billion, as reported by sources close to the situation. This funding round follows a successful $134 million seed round eight months prior, which marked the company's emergence from Medal, a platform designed for sharing video game clips. The latest investment discussions have attracted notable backers including industry heavyweights like Jeff Bezos and Eric Schmidt, alongside existing investors such as Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst. Founded by Pim de Witte, who previously co-founded Medal, General Intuition is supported by a team of experts, including co-founders Eloi Alonso, Adam Jelley, and Vincent Micheli, all of whom specialize in world modeling and simulation. The startup is at the forefront of training embodied AI systems using an extensive dataset sourced from Medal, comprising 2 billion videos annually contributed by 10 million monthly active users. This unique dataset allows AI to learn through interactive first-person gameplay, forming a robust foundation for developing deep spatial-temporal reasoning skills. This capability enables machines to perceive, anticipate, and interact within real-time simulations effectively. General Intuition's innovative approach has not gone unnoticed, reportedly drawing interest from leading AI entities like OpenAI, which previously sought to acquire Medal. The competitive landscape for world modeling is intensifying, with several startups, including Runway, Decart, and World Labs, recently launching their own models. Additionally, Google’s Genie 3 has begun integrating Google Maps data to enhance real-world simulation. While many companies focus on commercializing their world models for gaming and robotics training, General Intuition distinguishes itself by prioritizing the development of agents as its primary product. The upcoming funds will be allocated to expand the company's computational capabilities, with plans to unveil a new product by late summer or early fall.
