Need a PDF or Word file? Gemini app can now turn prompts into ready-to-use documents

Google has introduced an exciting productivity enhancement to its Gemini app, empowering users to create 'downloadable and shareable files' directly from text prompts. This innovative feature is designed to streamline the process of generating workspace documents, minimizing the need for tedious copying, pasting, and reformatting tasks. With this update, Gemini now supports a variety of file formats, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, LaTeX, TXT, RTF, and Markdown. Users can effortlessly convert their budget proposals into Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) files or transform scattered notes into well-organized bullet-point outlines. A video released by Google illustrates the potential of this upgrade, showcasing how users can instruct Gemini to generate comprehensive study guides as PDFs in LaTeX format, complete with visuals, graphs, and equations. The rollout of this feature has already begun for Gemini users worldwide, including Google Workspace clients, individual subscribers, and personal account holders. Previously, Google Workspace unveiled Workspace Intelligence at the Google Cloud Next 2026 event. This functionality enhances the app's capability to comprehend the interconnections between various files, projects, and individuals across Google services such as Docs, Slides, and Gmail, enabling smarter automation of tasks and workflows. Additionally, Google has incorporated a 'memories' feature into Gemini, allowing the chatbot to retain crucial information from user interactions, although this option is currently limited to users in the UK and other European nations.
