Google’s Gemini app has surpassed 750M monthly active users

Google's AI chatbot, Gemini, has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 750 million monthly active users (MAUs) as reported in the company's fourth-quarter earnings for 2025. This impressive growth underscores the rapid acceptance of Gemini among consumers, establishing it as a significant contender in the AI landscape. In the previous quarter, the user base stood at 650 million, marking a swift increase in just a few months. For comparison, Meta's AI platform has close to 500 million monthly users. Despite this surge, Gemini still lags behind its primary competitor, ChatGPT, which boasts approximately 810 million MAUs as of late 2025. The new user statistics come shortly after the launch of Gemini 3, which is touted as Google's most advanced AI model yet, delivering responses that are claimed to demonstrate exceptional depth and nuance. CEO Sundar Pichai noted that the rollout of Gemini 3 in AI mode has been a significant factor driving the company's growth, emphasizing the importance of ongoing investment and innovation to continue this upward trend. In an effort to attract more users, Google has also introduced a more budget-friendly subscription option, the Google AI Plus, priced at $7.99 per month. Though this new plan was launched too recently to impact the current quarterly figures, it is expected to appeal to cost-conscious consumers and further boost user growth. Philipp Schindler, Google's chief business officer, mentioned during the investor call that the focus remains on both a free tier and subscription options, which have shown promising growth. The surge in Gemini's user base is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of Alphabet's overall financial success, with the company surpassing $400 billion in annual revenue for the first time this quarter, largely attributed to the growth of its AI division and rising demand. Additionally, Google has recently unveiled its latest TPU AI accelerator chip, named Ironwood, to strengthen its competitive edge against Nvidia. Pichai highlighted the significance of the Gemini 3 launch, stating, "Our first-party models, including Gemini, now process over 10 billion tokens per minute through direct API use by our customers, and the Gemini App has grown to over 750 million monthly active users. AI continues to fuel a period of expansion, with search usage hitting unprecedented levels."
