Gemini AI now available in Google Docs on Android devices

Google has officially expanded its Gemini artificial intelligence assistant to the Android version of Google Docs, previously confined to desktop use for paid Workspace subscribers. This new feature is rolling out to select users, enhancing the mobile experience with a variety of AI-driven functionalities. In a recent blog post, Google confirmed that Gemini will be integrated into the Google Docs app through a convenient side panel interface. To utilize this feature, users need to be on one of the eligible paid plans, such as Google Workspace Business or Enterprise tiers, or possess the Gemini Education or Education Premium add-ons. Once activated, users can find the Gemini icon, represented by a sparkle symbol, at the top of the Docs interface. Tapping this icon reveals a bottom sheet where the chatbot can be engaged. On Android devices, Gemini can perform tasks such as summarizing documents, highlighting important points, suggesting content improvements, and answering inquiries based on the document's content. The assistant boasts support for over 20 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese, which broadens accessibility for international Workspace users. Google highlights practical applications of Gemini, including summarizing lengthy reports, responding to intricate questions from budget files or policy documents, and generating draft reports from simple prompts. However, it's important to note that the mobile version of Gemini is currently limited compared to its desktop variant. Features such as "Help me write," "Help me create," and image generation are not yet available in the mobile app. This update represents a gradual rollout of Google’s AI tools across different platforms, although many advanced features remain exclusive to desktop users. Additionally, Google has begun to implement a major update to its Gemini app, introducing scheduled actions to enhance functionality. This new feature, unveiled during the company's I/O developer conference, is now accessible to users subscribed to Google AI Pro or Ultra plans, along with select Google Workspace business and education accounts.
