Finally! Google is testing ways to change Gmail addresses: All details

In a significant move, Google is reportedly piloting a long-awaited feature that will enable users to modify their Gmail addresses. This development means that individuals can retain their existing accounts and data while updating their email addresses, eliminating the need to create a new Gmail account. According to a report by 9To5Google, this feature was confirmed on Google's Hindi-language support pages. Users will soon have the option to select a new Gmail address without losing any emails, contacts, files, or account data. Google stated, "If you'd like, you can change your Google Account email address that ends in gmail.com to a new email address that ends in gmail.com." The rollout for this feature is expected to begin gradually in 2026, which means it may take some time before all users can access it. Importantly, the original Gmail address will continue to function, although it will no longer serve as the primary address. Users will still receive emails at their previous address and will be able to log in with it. However, there are some restrictions associated with this new capability. Google has indicated that users will be limited to changing their Gmail address once every 12 months, with a maximum of three changes allowed throughout the life of the account. These limitations are designed to prevent potential abuses and ensure clarity across various Google services, including Drive, YouTube, Payments, and Workspace. Currently, this feature is in development, and Google is anticipated to provide more information on this significant update soon. It's still unclear whether the company will conduct a global rollout or initially test it with a select group of users.
