In a remarkable blend of creativity and technology, Priscilla Tina, a 28-year-old product manager based in San Francisco, has successfully launched a unique app that bridges the gap between digital communication and traditional postcard sending. With a passion for analog experiences and a desire to inspire creativity, Tina set out to develop an innovative solution to a common problem: the hassle of sending postcards. Last November, Tina utilized Claude Code to craft an app called Postcard Press, designed to allow users to upload images and write messages without the tedious process of purchasing stamps or locating a mailbox. Drawing inspiration from her past experiences of sending postcards to friends while traveling, she aimed to simplify the process, making it more accessible and enjoyable. The idea sparked during her preparation for ProductCon in San Francisco. With a goal to showcase a prototype, she managed to create the app within a mere four hours. Attendees at the conference expressed enthusiasm, eager to use it for sending holiday postcards, which reinforced her belief that there was a market for her creation. Following the initial excitement, Tina took to social media, sharing her project in a video that garnered over 20,000 views. This response motivated her to fully develop the app before the year's end. Over the subsequent two months, she worked on monetizing the app, integrating payment systems, and ultimately launched Postcard Press in December. Since then, the app has facilitated the sending of more than 100 postcards, each priced around $2. While the financial margins are thin due to costs associated with services like Postgrid and Stripe, Tina emphasizes that profit isn’t her primary motivation. With a background in engineering, she faced challenges, particularly around app security and payment integration. A friend's discovery of a security flaw before the public launch prompted her to strengthen the app’s defenses. Moreover, with the help of her tech-savvy friends, Tina tackled the integration of Stripe for payment processing, successfully completing the task in just 30 minutes using Claude's assistance. Though she acknowledges the uncertainty of the app's long-term success, she views this venture as a valuable learning experience. Building on her newfound skills, Tina has also developed another app called Mini Print, which allows users to create digital Polaroid walls for their phones. This project has already attracted around 2,000 users, showcasing her ability to innovate and adapt to user needs. With a focus on reimagining nostalgic experiences, Tina is eager to continue exploring new product ideas, with nature and plant-themed projects on the horizon.
