Mirror’s founder is back with a new ‘connected screen’ startup: a gaming device called ‘Board’

Brynn Putnam, renowned for founding the connected fitness brand Mirror, is making waves again with her latest venture: a revolutionary gaming console named 'Board.' After successfully selling Mirror to Lululemon for an impressive $500 million in 2020, Putnam has returned to the entrepreneurial scene, unveiling her new product at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 conference in San Francisco. Board is designed to merge the traditional joys of board games with the excitement of video gaming. The console features a 24-inch interactive screen encased in a stylish wooden frame, allowing friends and family to gather around and enjoy gaming together. The screen is capable of recognizing touches, gestures, and even physical game pieces, creating an engaging and immersive experience. Upon its launch, priced at $500, Board will include 12 initial games and 50 game pieces. Putnam emphasized the potential of artificial intelligence to enhance the user experience. "We’re really excited about the long-term power of AI to personalize experiences on the device," she mentioned. This includes features like adaptive storylines, dynamic environments, and accessibility options such as voice-to-text and translation. To develop its first games, Board’s internal studio has collaborated with external developers, with plans to expand its offerings through an app store in the future. This strategy aims to invite a wider range of developers to contribute their unique experiences to the platform. Backed by notable venture capital firms, including Lerer Hippeau, which previously supported Mirror, Board has successfully raised $15 million and is in the process of securing additional funding through a Series A round. When asked about her shift towards gaming, Putnam expressed, "I think that play is just universal... It’s this universal language that connects us and brings us together," highlighting her vision for Board as a tool for creative expression and community engagement.
