After four years in a tech position, I found myself feeling stagnant, yearning for new challenges and experiences. I began my career at a billing company right after college in 2021, eventually rising to the role of senior software engineer. After months of contemplation, I made the pivotal decision to resign in October 2025, believing that quitting would enhance my chances of quickly securing a new role. Despite the risk, particularly in a job market where AI seemed to be replacing many positions, I leaned into my nearly four and a half years of experience and skills. I began my job hunt without any offers lined up. Surprisingly, within just a few weeks, I secured a position as a software engineer at a product-focused company, engaging in work that excites me every day. The first days post-resignation were crucial; I dedicated time to revamping my LinkedIn profile and résumé to showcase my latest projects and skills. I committed two hours daily to online applications and spent my evenings preparing for interviews, often working late into the night. Although I didn’t customize my résumé for every application, I tailored my interview prep according to each job description. Having previously used AI to learn new concepts, I decided to leverage it for my job search. I prompted it as if it were a seasoned résumé expert and asked for guidance on crafting my job applications. When I landed interviews, I utilized ChatGPT to help plan my preparation, generating potential interview questions aligned with the job descriptions. Many of these questions appeared during my interviews, which was both thrilling and validating. When faced with difficult questions, I jotted them down and later sought explanations from AI for better understanding. I was aware of the limitations of AI, so I cross-checked its responses against reliable sources. Overall, I found AI to be a useful tool that significantly enhanced my preparation process. Active on LinkedIn, I often shared insights related to frontend and software engineering, which I believe positively influenced my job search. When I discovered a software engineer position at a company where a connection worked, I reached out for a referral. This connection, impressed by my posts and knowledge, helped me secure an interview, leading to an offer shortly after. In early November, less than a month after resigning, I accepted a job offer. The speed of my job placement surprised me and boosted my confidence. This experience taught me the importance of self-belief and efficient time management. Instead of sifting through endless websites for answers, I leveraged AI to streamline my search. By stepping out of my comfort zone, I discovered a world of opportunities awaiting me.
